Last year, CIE held the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award and had great success. This year, we cordially invite you to join us at our 43rd Annual Conference. This will be our first in-person annual event in three years since the pandemic. It would be a great opportunity to hang out and meet the executives, industrial talents, and friends at our conference in person again. We hope to see you there!
The theme of the 43rd Annual Conference is Beyond Breakthrough. The program consists of a technical session in the afternoon and a gala banquet in the evening.

Fireside Chat: Meet with Mir Imran
Mir Imran is a prolific healthcare innovator and entrepreneur who has been developing and commercializing breakthrough medical innovations for more than 40 years. As an entrepreneur, Mir has founded more than 20 life sciences companies and is holding more than 800 patents; 15 of his companies have seen "liquidity events" (IPO/ Acquisition). His recent exit, Rani Therapeutics Holdings Inc., focusing on oral delivery of biologics, went public on Nasdaq in July 2021, which was his fourth IPO. Mir is perhaps most well-known for his pioneering contributions to the first FDA-approved Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. Mir has received a number of industry accolades for his work including being named one of the most inspiring people in life sciences (PharmaVoice) and one of the “Top 50 Medical Device Inventors of All Time” (QMed). Mir has also been recognized as a fellow for both the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Tom Coughlin, President, Coughlin Associates is a digital storage analyst as well as a business and technology consultant. He has over 40 years in the data storage industry with engineering and management positions at several companies. Tom is active with SMPTE, SNIA and the Past President of IEEE USA. Tom was the general chairman of the annual Flash Memory Summit for 10 years and is currently Program Chair. He was also the founder and organizer of the Storage Visions Conference, IEEE Fellow, and Chair of the Consultants Network of Silicon Valley (CNSV).

Dr. Paul Rousseau is a Senior Director heading TSMC’s Field Technical Solutions Division. In his current capacity, his team supports all technology engagements for North America customers. He has held a variety of positions at TSMC ranging from managing the smallest to the biggest customers. He joined TSMC in 1999 from Hewlett-Packard Labs. Paul earned his Ph.D and his Masters of Science Degree from Stanford University in Applied Physics.

Dr. Eliza Du is CEO and co-founder of Integem, where she leads her team to develop the next generation Holographic AR platform. She was a tenured engineering professor and Ph.D. advisor at Purdue Univ. and an Engineering Director at Qualcomm. Her technical expertise is in Metaverse, artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, etc. with over 100+ top-tier peer-reviewed journal articles and international conference papers, and over 30 patents.

We are honored to have the California State Controller Ms. Betty Yee to talk about the 2022-23 California Blueprint. As the first Asian-American woman in California’s history to serve as state controller, Controller Yee will share with us how she maneuvered through one of the greatest crises in centuries, and what the next steps are beyond the breakthrough.

Keynote SpeakerMs. Betty T. YeeCalifornia State ControllerCalifornia State Controller Betty T. Yee was elected in Nov. 2014, following two terms of service on the California Board of Equalization. As Controller, she continues to serve the Board as its fifth voting member. Reelected for a second term as Controller in 2018, Ms. Yee is only the tenth woman in California history to be elected to statewide office. A native of San Francisco, Ms. Yee has more than 35 years of experience in public service, specializing in state and local finance and tax policy. Ms. Yee leads an experienced, full-time team of public service professionals who are responsible for financial reporting, audits, and issuing more than 49 million payments annually to vendors, local governments, school districts, taxpayers, and state employees. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, she has worked to streamline the State Controller’s Office manual processes and reimagine the agency as a workplace of the future. |

2022 Silicon Valley Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year AwardDr. Jun PeiCEO and Co-founder of CeptonDr. Pei is an entrepreneur and technologist in optics and electronics. He developed the first optical and acoustical combination technique in semiconductor thin film measurement and holds numerous patents in the field of metrology. Before co-founding Cepton, Dr. Pei founded AEP Technology to develop advanced 3D instruments and pioneered parallel computing in interference microscope. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior scientist at KLA-Tencor in optics equipment and also led engineering team at Velodyne in advancing the HDL-64 Lidar. Dr. Pei received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. |
